Concessions
Concession sales are one of the primary revenue streams of CYHA and should be treated as such. It's important that the responsibilities of working concessions are taken seriously and that those working in there consider the financial impact on CYHA while working their shift.
Starting Up
- The door should be open and money should be in the till for you.
- Start coffee, popcorn, pizza and hotdogs, depending on time of day. Follow the signs by each station for specific details.
- Take pretzels out of cooler.
During
- Keep hotdogs, pizza and popcorn product stocked based on how busy it is. It's an art to have enough but not too much and try to minimize waste.
- Pay attention to the schedule and if there is an upcoming break in the schedule or end of the day, start to limit options. If it's getting close to lunch time, ensure there is enough available.
Closing
- Each station has a sign as to how to clean up / close down that station.
- Ensure beverage coolers are stocked from the walk in cooler in the North Rink. Key is in the middle drawer of the desk in concessions - labeled "Cooler".
- Wipe down all surfaces.
- Ensure that dishes are washed, floors are swept and mopped at the end of the day.
- At the end of the day, money from the tills goes in the money boxes, and money boxes go in the safe. The safe gets shut and locked.
Tips, Tricks and Things to Know
- If you need change in the tills, you can make change in the safe. There is a basket of smaller bills. Make change accordingly (put in a $100 bill and take out $100 in $5 bills for example).
- If you need quarters, they are in the drawer in the safe. Place a $10 bill in the drawer for each roll of quarters you take out of the safe.
- Kids must be 14 to work in concessions with their parent or guardian or 16 to work by themselves.
- If there is a break on Sundays between the last scheduled shift and open skate, those working the games should clean up the pizza, popcorn and do a general spot clean of concessions and stock what they can. Those working open skate will serve hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, candy and beverages and will do the full cleanup at the end of the day.
